Description

The 1-1/2" Triclover (TC) weldless bulkhead flange allows you to add a TC port to any tank or kettle with absolutely no welding or soldering. Just drill a hole and tighten the locknut. Done!

But wait! Instead of an internal locknut, we've machined a beautiful hex fitting with its own 1.5" TC flange on it. When tightened together through a hole in the pot/tank, you're left with TC flanges inside and out so you can add your spray ball, sparge arm, or whatever else you want.

These are extremely high quality pieces machined out of 304SS and polished to perfection (except for the locknut which is cast finish 304SS.

Max wall thickness is 3/16" but we can supply an alternate option for thicker walls. Contact us for that option.

The silicone O-ring is included and gets captured in a groove like our other True Bulkheads.

NOTE: there is only a captured ORING seal on one side of this bulkhead. The sealing between the main body and the female threaded half needs to be done with thick teflon tape on the threads. The tape is adequate to get a seal for sparging arms, whirlpools, etc but it may leak under high pressure applications.

Installation Notes:
  • Hole Size Required - 1-5/8" or 41mm. Note that the most pleasant tool to use for this is a knockout punch set. Since they are extremely cost prohibitive, the next best option is our tungsten carbide hose saw (40mm). After deburring the 40mm hole, the result is a clean 41mm hole. See the accessories column on the right for the bit.
  • The oring contact is on the smooth round flange side of the fitting so make sure there are no burrs on that side of the hole.
  • The hex side measures 2" or 50 mm. Turning it with an adjustable wrench does NOT work well. You'll need a socket or a box wrench. Since these tools are very rare, we offer a socket as an accessory. It requires a 1/2" drive ratchet.
  • The front of the flange does not have flats for a wrench. The easiest way to hold the front of the flange for tightening is to clamp any other TC part on with the gasket and clamp (a blank cap works great). Once tight, you can insert a long rod or screw driver into the hole of the wingnut.
  • You may install the smooth side of the assembly (the side with the oring) on either the inside or outside of the pot. We recommend the inside because it is much more sanitary and easier to clean than the hex version.
  • Teflon tape is required on the threads.

We've tested this on a pot measuring as small as 12" in diameter. Anything smaller may work but we don't know for sure. Larger diameters or flat areas are no issue at all.

I was having trouble finding someone to weld stainless for me then I came across the bulkhead.  The installation was easy and work as good as if I got the piece welded.

4 of 5 Works Pretty Well December 10, 2020

I have to start by explaining that I'm using this on an Anvil Foundry system. I'm using this to turn the pre-drilled hole in the lid into a port based on the Steam Slayer instructions for the Foundry. I'm not running the Steam Slayer, but I'm using the same hole and turning it into a TC port. That said, this product "sort of" works. The hole in the Foundry is 1-7/8". The fitting is built for a 1-5/8" hole. So the the 2 sides of the fitting tend to just tighten up against each other as opposed to "sandwiching" a portion of the lid in between them. As a result the fitting kind of sits in the hole and is a little loose and wobbly. However, it may still function this way. I decided to modify it slightly by buying a 1-5/8" ID teflon gasket and mounting it to the side of the lid opposite the o-ring. It gives the fitting a little more surface area to bite down on and makes it a little more secure. All-in-all, it works for what I'm using it for, and it's a nicely machined part.

5 of 5 Brilliant piece July 1, 2019

Very high quality and well built.  My kettle is 18" in diameter and it seals up just fine.  I highly recommend getting his 40mm tungsten hole saw for the installation.  Use a high torque drill and take your time.

5 of 5 HEAVY January 2, 2018

This thing is solid. Heavy, perfect for putting a through tri-clamp on a pilot system kettle lid. Doesn't leak, didn't from the beginning (I used plumber's tape), and it does everything I want it to do.
