Description

This 304 stainless steel valve has 1" / 1.5" TC flanges on both ends The bore is exactly 1-3/8". There are many like it but this one is our favorite because it hasn't been built to withstand a an entire nuclear apocalypse (just the first blast). It's about 30% smaller in bulk and nearly 50% of the weight (824 grams vs 1435 grams) than a typical industry standard butterfly valve because it can be. You can get an idea of the scale in our second picture as compared to the plastic handle version we sell.

The valve can be locked into several positions at various degrees of "open". To unlock the handle to turn the valve, the trigger is squeezed. This is a very nice valve and the best we've seen at this price point. If you don't know what a butterfly valve is or how it differs from ball valves, essentially the closure is made by a thin rotating disc. In the closed position, the disc is perpendicular to the flow and rubs against surrounding silicone seals to stop flow. In the open position, the disc is parallel to flow and almost disappears for minimal restriction. There are no pockets behind the seals that get funky either.

An important note about chemicals. Do not leave these valves soaking in strong detergents, acids or caustic solutions for days at a time. Silicone is a great choice for seals in hot and food grade applications but it will shrink over time after long chemical exposures. A shrunken seal is a leaking butterfly valve and they are not cheap to replace.

5 of 5 Nice valves November 7, 2022
Reviewer: Marc from Baden, PA United States
These valves are great because they are lighter and easier to attach to triclamp fixtures.  This is especially true for hose ends.  Large brewery hoses are stiff and unwieldy, having a lighter valve makes these connections a little easier.  Brew Hardware is great.  If you need something special, even custom Bobby and crew will try to help you.  Great job.

5 of 5 No more ball valves October 17, 2022

My ss brew tech fermenter definitely needed some upgrades. The butterfly valve is so much nicer and cleaner than a three piece ball valve and it doesn’t have a hidden air pocket built in the way ball valves have around the seals.
