All the SPIKE supplied product info is found below but first here's Brewhardware.com take: We've had our hands on most mills that hit the homebrewing market. One of the first integrated units (motor, mill, hopper combined) we bought and tested was the SSbrewtech mill and "poorly designed and disappointing" is being nice. Although some superficial aesthetics are common between the SSbrewtech and new Spike mill, that's where it ends. Everything is better on the Spike. The motor and drive mechanics are relatively quiet, it moves a lot of grain pretty quickly (for a home sized mill) and the gap adjustment knob just works as advertised. In comparison to most other mills on the market, the Spike carries two major advantages that you may not appreciate if you're shopping for your first mill. The first is pretty obvious; it's fully integrated. Most mils designed around the 2 or 3 knurled cylinder rollers are assembled from a few pieces of flat bar stock and everything is bolted together. In many cases, the "squareness" of the entire assembly, including keeping the roller shafts from binging in the bearings, is dependent on carefully and evenly tightening the bolts and getting the holes in your base drilled accurately. All of that fiddling is bypassed with the Spike mill. Secondly, there is no assembly or DIY aspect to the mill. The motor is already inside with no exposed pinch points. The hopper ships in one piece rather than 5-6 flat pieces of metal that need bolting together. Other than a few screws that secure the hopper to the mill, it's ready to rock. The most DIY part of this mill is if you decide to bypass the SPIKE mill table or bucket adapter and want to mount it to your own table or bucket base. In that case, it's four screw holes and an opening for the grain to fall through and none of that has to be cut precisely at all. We're strongly considering changing over our shop mill to the SPIKE (likely the pro version, but nonetheless). If you have any questions about our experience with the mill before dropping the cash on this buy once, cry once mill, give us a call.
We try to have at least one of these units in stock in NJ in cases where the customer is local and wants to pick up or is located Northeast of us and wants it shipped quickly. In some cases we will drop ship directly from SPIKE. If you have strong preferences in this regard, call or email first.
