Many people agree that Sanke kegs make great fermenters for up to 13 gallon batches and these parts are the premium way to convert to a fermenter. Thermowell? Yes. Pressurized ferment and transfer? Sure.
This is a new (as of July 2017) and improved version made with almost zero off the shelf parts. First, instead of using a pipe tee, we've started from scratch to have fully integrated parts for a more sanitary finish. The center block is welded to the TC flange and the top compression fitting is machined into the block. One side port is the ball lock standard threads (19/32") so that the included ball lock gas post can thread directly on. The other side port is male 1/4" NPT in case you want to expand to other accessories such as an adjustable PRV, pressure gauge, etc. It comes standard with a pipe cap that you can remove later. The top compression fitting also comes with a plastic T-knob that allows you to tighten and loosen the grip on the racking can for precise height adjustment with your bare hands. The standard racking cane is 29" of 3/8" OD 304SS tubing with a 90 degree top bend ending in an open tube (fittings optional).
In addition to the 3/8" racking cane used for pressure transfers, we also include a short piece of straight tubing and silicone sleeve so you may put an airlock or blow off tube into the top fitting for the fermentation process.
The standard thermowell is 18" long from the TC flange but we do offer a shortened 9.5" version for short quarterbarrel kegs and other applications. The inside diameter is .27" (7mm) and will easily accept probes from Johnson A419, Ranco, Inkbird, etc temp controllers up to 1/4" OD.
As the picture shows, it of course also comes with the required 2" TC clamp and one-sided silicone TC gasket.
Install Requirements: All product options here assume that you've removed the valve assembly and dip tube out of the keg. You should be able to look inside the keg through the 2" hole. Note that the actual diameter of the flange on the keg opening should be approximately 2.5" and the ID should be about 2". This applies to MOST commercial kegs available but please double check.
Pressure Transfer Rig Main Options: - The option is various end treatments on the top end of the racking cane. We can add male NPT threads, either 1/4" or 1/2" for the use of ball valves or any other NPT female fittings and we can also add a ball lock liquid QD post which essentially turns the keg into a ball lock keg. Ordering one of these options obviously adds cost and functionality but please be aware that there is a 1-3 day additional lead time for this custom work. To avoid misunderstanding, please realize that these options do include the fitting being attached. It is attached via silver soldering. It only includes attachment to the top side of the can after the bend (not both ends of the cane).
- If you are buying multiple kits to ferment in several Sanke kegs simultaneously, you can also select "delete racking cane" from the drop down option for all but one of the units since you can move the cane between units as necessary.
Please keep in mind that using parts sold here for pressure fermenting will require additional components that we are not yet prepared to offer in full kit form (some of them will be listed as accessories here).
