Description

You can buy this as a bare-bones kit elsewhere on the site and add whatever wire length and element you want. This particular item is a ready to plug in heat source that is fully prewired for you with the features most commonly requested.

It includes the bare bones hotrod hardware, an element (choice in dropdown), 8 feet of 10/3 SJEOOW cable and a NEMA L6-30P plug. Note that approximately 2 feet of the cable length is consumed by the drop conduit and internal wiring so from the cable grip to the plug measures an actual 6 feet.

If you would like to add additional footage of the 10/3 cable, add some additional footage to the cart and we'll assume you wanted that added to the length.

Options:
  1. Vertical conduit bend options: Left straight, you get about 28" of overall height. This option only needs to used if you have a very deep pot. The most common option is the 90 degree bend. This allows for less strain on the cord but the max pot depth (if you want it to nearly sit on the bottom) is 23". Finally, if your pot is only about 19" tall, you can opt for the 170 degree bend which will loop you over the pot wall like a Sheppard's hook and make the wire drop straight down. If you are using this in addition to a flame under your pot, the 90 degree bend gives you the best clearance to keep the wire away.
  2. Element. You have a choice between a 5500 watt RIPPLE element and a 5500 watt straight foldback element. The ripple is better for boiling wort as the surface temps are a little lower but the minimum pot diameter for this option is 17". That is typically a 20 gallon kettle or larger. The straight foldback unit is a little shorter so the minimum pot diameter is 16".

This unit is just a drop-in heater. It does NOT have a built in temperature or power controller. 5500 watts is too powerful to leave uncontrolled in a boil any smaller than 15 gallons.

5 of 5 A new way to brew December 7, 2020
Reviewer: Mark3885 from WNY
I bought the 5500 watt , 240 v element, this product and the 2200watt hotrod has made brewing safer and more enjoyable. The 5500 watt element heated my wort from 140F to boiling in 20 minutes, the rolling boil was perfect for my 20 gal pot and 13 gallons of wort. I don’t have a controller, but the continuous wattage was perfect to give me a fantastic even boil . Electric brewing is safer by a long stretch, no propane to run out , no CO fumes , quiet , no roar from the propane burner. I can have my radio on and be able to talk and not have to yell. I can’t stress enough about having the proper electric outlet, wire to the element and properly wired GFCI breaker is  essential for safety around water. No drilling or welding on my pots is needed, going to electric, has put the fun back into home brewing. Thanks Brew Hardware team!

5 of 5 Excellent product, a big improvement over propane July 19, 2020
Reviewer: Joe Meadows from ashland, OR United States
Heavy duty, well constructed and easy to put together.  The fact that it is removable means I can easily use it with multiple kettles and it's out of the way for cleaning.  The generous length of cord reaches my outlet which is mounted overhead with length to spare.

I like using this much more than propane.  No gas to run out of, no waves of heat coming up the sides of the kettle and no jet engine noise.  Very easy to control with the Auber DSPR1 controller.
