Description

Our step bits are great for drilling a bunch of different hole sizes, but you do have to drill for a while because you're making a bunch of holes, larger and larger. These new Tungsten Carbide tipped hole saws make fast work through stainless. The only downside is that you need a different bit for every hole size. If you are going to drill several holes of the same size, you'll appreciate the speed and durability of these types of bits.

This 21mm bit is also equivalent to 13/16" which is appropriate for our truebulkheads, thermometers, LTSK/LTSP sight glasses, pull through solderable bulkheads and generally any place where 1/2" NPT is to go through. You'll need a slow speed, high torque drill motor for these with a 3/8" or larger chuck. We have other sizes as well.

It is highly recommended that you start ANY size hole with a smaller pilot bit approximately 1/8".

NOTE: These bits are recommended for users that have a reasonable/intermediate level of DIY experience with power tools and/or metal working in general. Keep in mind that when the larger hole boring section of this bit hits your pot wall, it is going to cause your drill motor to kick in your hands. Do not attempt to hold the drill with one hand. Firmly grip your drill with both hands and prop the handle against your leg and tense up for additional stability. If the drill bit binds at all and causes the drill to kick and you do not secure it, you will likely break one or more of the carbide tips off of the bit. We will NOT replace a drill bit with broken tips because it does not represent a defect in workmanship. You've heard a lot about using the right tool for the job, but this is one of those cases where we have to stress having a certain ability for the tool.

Used this for my electric brew controller.  Cut through a heavy gauge without issues, will be using it for my recirculation port too.  Be sure to use oil!

5 of 5 Performance is amazing! July 3, 2017

This thing cut through thick stainless like it was pine. I was totally amazed.  The hardest part in preparing the hole for my fitting was drilling an initial 1/16" pilot hole, even with a cobalt bit.  So I was a little worried about how the hole saw would work on this pot. As soon as the carbide teeth hit the pot wall I was delighted to see it immediately start cutting and rapidly cut all the way through in a matter of seconds. Well worth the price!

5 of 5 Best bit for drilling holes!! February 26, 2017

I always dreaded using a step bit to drill holes in kegs.  Using this is a breeze - takes 10 seconds and your done.  I had to drill 9 holes and ordered a second bit.  It may be user error but wore the first one down to the nub after 6.  Be sure to drill the 1/8" pilot.
