Several customers asked us to prewire our hot rods and Hot Pod ETC Element enclosures partially or in full. Before we get into your options, we should make sure you understand right now that all of these labor charge options are just that; LABOR only. It does not include any materials. Wire and the plug end need to be on the order as well.
1. If you are getting a hotrod for use with 10/3 cable which is typical of 5500 watt elements, this $5 option is simply to strip the outer insulation jacket, pull the three core conductors into the hotrod wiring box and apply the 90 degree bend. This makes the wiring process go much smoother. Orders for this option MUST contain a hotrod heatstick and at least 5 feet of 10/3 wire.
2. Pull and prewire the element end. This can be done with either 12/3 or 10/3 wire. We will pull the cable (and bend if you specify the bend on the hotrod item), crimp the electrical terminals and attach the earth ground. You will still need to perform the leak test and screw the two ring terminals to the back of the element as well as wire your own electrical plug on the other end. Orders for this option MUST contain a hotrod heatstick and at least 5 feet of wire because approximately 30" are consumed by the hotrod drop tube and connections. Figure out how far away the outlet is from where you plan to brew and then add three feet. You may also select this option if you want a Hot Pot ETC (any model with "ETC" is applicable but we cannot prewire the element end of the "EWL" series enclosures.
3. Pull and prewire both ends. We will pull the cable (and bend if you specify the bend on the hotrod item), crimp the electrical terminals and attach the earth ground. We will also prewire the plug end so you must select one of our plug ends. For 1500 watt elements, you will select either the plain 15 amp plug OR the GFCI enabled plug (highly recommended if you will not always have access to a GFCI enabled outlet). For 2000 watt elements, you will need to select the 20 amp plain plug option as we do not have 20 amp GFCI plugs. You will NEED to plug this into a 20 amp outlet with GFCI protection. Finally, if you are using the 5500 watt elements, you must select 10/3 cable and the L6-30P plug end (of course you will need an L6-30R receptacle on your end for this to work).
Note: You will still need to perform the leak test as we ship the element end with the TC clamp removed for easier packing. Orders for this option MUST contain a hotrod heatstick and at least 5 feet of wire because approximately 30" are consumed by the hotrod drop tube and connections. Figure out how far away the outlet is from where you plan to brew with the HotRod and then add three feet. You may also select this option if you want a Hot Pot ETC (any model with "ETC" is applicable but we cannot prewire the element end of the "EWL" series enclosures. In the case of the ETC, the wire length consumed by the wiring operation is only 6".
One additional option you have with all the prewiring is the addition of mesh sleeving, see the options on the right. If you're ordering 10 feet of wire, get 11 feet of sleeving. Any prewire job that has sleeving on the order will have it preinstalled for you.
Please be aware that these services can add 3-5 business days to your order processing.
