It's easy to unknowingly hook up a gas line to a keg where the pressure in the keg is **higher** than the line, and blast beer or beer foam out of the keg up into your gas line. At the least, this contaminates your gas line, but liquid can also damage your regulator. I inserted one of these between the MFL ball lock and the FFL hose barb on the end of my gas line. It looks cool, I don't worry about back-pressure anymore, and my pro brewer friends give me the thumbs up for the professional installation touch.
