The most common American Wheat beer out in the wild would be Blue Moon. It's marketed as a homage to Belgian Wits, but let's be honest here. There's nothing even remotely Belgian about it. Our "Shoot the Moon" American Wheat Beer kit is easy drinking with a soft sweet grainy malt quality with a touch of honey. The hops lean on the floral/citrus side so you can go ahead and put a wedge of orange on the glass if the mood strikes you.
The BrewHardware Extract version of a style-accurate American Wheat recipe is just the ticket for folks looking to ween friends and family off of the light American macro lagers without having to struggle with the complexity of lager fermentation. This wheat beer is also a great candidate for adding fruit or fruit flavoring post fermentation.
Like all of our custom designed recipe kits, the ingredients are taken directly out of our high turnover stock at the time of ordering. That way, nothing sits in a box on the shelf.
This kit includes steeping grains, dry malt extract, hops, dry yeast, priming sugar, bottle caps and a recipe sheet with basic step by step instructions.
FRUIT BEER?You have three options for making this a fruit beer.
1. Easy/Economical: Purchase any of our 4 ounce natural flavorings and simply add these to your bottling bucket at the same time as the priming sugar solution. Pro Tip! You don't have to flavor the entire batch. You may want to bottle the first half of the batch, then stir in half the flavoring bottle into the remaining 2.5 gallons and bottle that. Two options for the price of one! Some options are found in the accessory list on the right or you can browse the entire selection of natural flavorings here.
2. More expensive/better tasting: Purchase any canned or boxed shelf stable fruit purees, somewhere between 3-5 pounds. The puree will be introduced into the fermenter at the same time as the yeast so that the fruit sugars are fermented at the same time as the wort. Some options are found in the accessory list on the right or you can browse the entire selection of fruit purees here.
3. Difficult: Adding frozen fruit (obtained frozen in bags or frozen from fresh fruit). The reason this is more difficult is that special care needs to be taken to avoid bacterial contamination that is often found on fruit skins. We don't recommend this process until you've successfully made at least 5 batches of beer and consult with us about how to do it.
