I ordered the 2.5 gal Cold Crash Guardian a few months ago, in anticipation of brewing some lagers. I had previously used a collection system that uses canning jars, but I always had problems with leakage from gaskets losing seal.
I set up the CCG after racking 5.25 gallons into my 7 gallon Brew Bucket inside the ferm chamber. Shortly after fermentation went active the bag completely filled with CO2. The excess CO2 bubbled away into a jar of Starsan. When I cold-crashed the brew down to 35F, about half the CO2 in the bag was drawn back, with not a bit of liquid being pulled up from the blowoff jar. The check valve did what it was supposed to do.
Another point I like is the bag can be positioned where ever I want it, unlike using clunky jar systems. And unlike using toy balloons, the bag on this is thick and sturdy.
Glad I opted for the larger bag--the 1 gal bag would not have had enough capacity.
