Many people agree that Sanke kegs make great fermenters for up to 13 gallon batches and these parts are the premium way to convert to a fermenter. Thermowell? Yes. Pressurized ferment and transfer? Sure. The unit we are offering here is setup well for a 1/4 BBL short keg but as long the 10" long thermowell will reach your liquid level, it will work in any SANKE style keg, 1/2BBL, 1/6BBL etc.
Install Requirements:
All product options here assume that you've removed the valve assembly and dip tube out of the keg. You should be able to look inside the keg through the 2" hole. Note that the actual diameter of the flange on the keg opening should be approximately 2.5" and the ID should be about 2". This applies to MOST commercial kegs available but please double check.
Main Options:
- Bare Bones 1 Piece Unit: The unique piece of gear that all options are built upon is a 2" triclover flange plate with an offset 1/2" male NPT port on the top and an 10" long sanitary welded thermowell on the bottom. Order this if you already have a gasket and 2" TC clamp.
- 3 Piece Kit: This kit includes the 2" TC assembly with welded 10"
thermowell and male 1/2" NPT nipple, a 2" TC clamp and a silicone 2" TC
gasket ribbed on only one side and flat on the other to mate with the
SANKE keg tap flange. (this is the default choice in the option dropdown). Consider adding the ELBARB and about 3 feet of 1/2" ID silicone tubing to work as a blow off style airlock. These are found in accessories on the right.
Please keep in mind that using parts sold here for pressure fermenting will require additional components that we are not yet prepared to offer in full (some of them will be listed as accessories here). You can thread a 1/2" NPT cross into the top of the kit and then hang additional parts off such as pressure gauge, adjustable pressure relief valve, compression fitting with long diptube (for pressure transfers), Ball Lock adapters, etc.
